Ayesha Mohyuddin

I navigate my Muslim identity by investigating ritual. My work seeks to unravel regularity and repetition, mapping out bodily motions, to find the subtle
nuances within the familiar that reveals a deeper understanding between the tactile action and its sacred significance. I reorient my understanding of prayer
through restraining the body with jewelry objects, highlighting physical details to understand its relation to a spiritual purpose. Restraint with performance,
allows me to trace the effects of ritual on both: the external, politicized context, and my internal experience, seeking the Divine.
