Yakinthi Oikonomou
Whenever I see closed doors or sealed windows, I make up a story in my mind about what may be hiding behind them. Which secrets do exist, which ones do not want or cannot be released? Which can free? Small secrets, big secrets, childhood secrets, intimate secrets, personal secrets, family secrets. And the fear: what if they are revealed? What if everyone knows but you do not know? Can you keep a secret? Can you stand it, if it is revealed?
I chose to work mainly with metal, using the lost wax technique. I gave it textures and oxidized it, trying to capture the damage that secrets cause to our soul over time.
